Adam's Song-Blink 182

The song "Adam's Song" by Blink 182, goes with the scene of Gatsby's funeral. The quote that specifically matches with this song is "I took him aside and asked him to wait for half an hour. But it wasn't any use. Nobody came"(pg. 182). The reason why "Adam's Song" relates with this part is because the lyrics say "I never thought I'd die alone, Another six months I'll be unknown", and this would emphasize how very few people went to Gatsby's funeral. Another reason why these lyrics relate to the novel is because they say "I couldn't wait till I got home, To pass the time in my room alone". This relates to how Gatsby was extremely lonely in his life. The final part of the song that relates to the novel is "Give all my things to all my friends". This shows how all of Gatsby's so called "friends" freeloaded off of him for his parties and alcohol.

The mood of "Adam's Song" goes well with the mood of The Great Gatsby too. This is because "Adam's Song" is about death, and the end of the novel Gatsby dies. Both the song and the novel have a depressing feel to them which would make them go well with one another. The part of "Adam's Song that is very depressing is "The choice was mine I didn't think enough I'm too depressed to go on You'll be sorry when I'm gone". A quote from The Great Gatsby that is very depressing is "It was after we started with Gatsby toward the house that the gardener saw Wilson's body a little way off in the grass, and the holocaust was complete" (pg. 170).

Working Class Hero-John Lennon

The song "Working Class Hero" by John Lennon, goes well with the Valley of Ashes part of "The Great Gatsby". They go well with one another because they both prove the American dream doesn't work out. For example "Working Class Hero" states "There's room at the top they're telling you still, But first you must learn how to smile as you kill". A quote from The Great Gatsby that agrees with this is "The valley of ashes is bounded on one side by a small foul river, and, when the drawbridge is up to let barges through, the passengers on waiting trains can stare at the dismal scene for as long as half an hour". In this quote the people are so bored of there mediocre lives because their dreams have been crushed.

"Working Class Hero" gives off a similar mood that the valley of ashes scene gives off. That mood is the feeling of grey. Grey means that everybody is bored and emotionless. In the novel Grey also means people's dreams don't come true.

Pretty Good at Drinkin Beer- Billy Curington

The song "Pretty Good at Drinkin Beer" would go well with the party scene in The Great Gatsby. One reason for this is in the lyrics it says "But I do my best work when the weather's hot I'm pretty good at drinkin' beer". This goes well with Gatsy due to the fact that they drink alot in the book. For example the text states "I was on my way to get roaring drunk from sheer embarrassment"(pg. 46). Both the scene and the song also share a feeling of happiness too.
